1st Solution - Jesus Christ

Why was Jesus sent to us?

Isaiah said (about 700 years before Jesus was born):

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor... (Isaiah 61:1-2 ESV)

Jesus himself said:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”(Luke 4:18-19 ESV)

What was Jesus' first instruction to us?

...Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matthew 4:17 ESV)

...Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:14-15 ESV)

If these four scriptures were the only source of information we every received about Jesus and his ministry, what can we learn from these verses?

We learn that Jesus was sent to us by our Heavenly Father to bring us The Gospel, which means "to bring or announce good news".  The Good News is that God specifically anointed Jesus to proclaim the good news and to specifically bring it to the poor in spirit (the humble and afflicted) who would believe it and humbly accept it. The Good News is that, to them and to us, He was sent to:

  • bind up the brokenhearted
  • to proclaim liberty to the captives (physically and spiritually)
  • opening of the prison to those who are bound (physically and spiritually)
  • proclaim liberty to the captives (physically and spiritually)
  • recovering of sight to the blind (physically and spiritually)
  • set at liberty those who are oppressed (physically and spiritually)
  • to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor

And the two conditions for receiving these marvelous gifts by His grace and mercy are (1) our repentance and (2) belief in the Good News which is our faith and trust in Jesus Christ who is our Good News and the Word of God to us.

Today, if you hear his [God's] voice, do not harden your hearts. (Hebrews 4:1-7 ESV)

Behold, I [Jesus] stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20 ESV)

Is Jesus the Only Way to Obtain a Relationship with God the Father?

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  (John 14:6 ESV)
